Private: Locked in
Chapter One:
Locked In
The walls grow tighter around me. Those plain four white walls glaring at me in anger. Mad that they must watch over me for hours upon hours without ceasing. The light under that large door fades evenly every day. As I hear you walking towards that voluptuous door without a knob, I push myself as fast as I can to my new found friend, your old black Christian Dior suit pants that fell the last time you grabbed me. I begin to count as you unlock the door. It takes seven full seconds before you are in the small cramped room with me. You begin to scream in hope to find me without having to get physical. I wait in fear of what you will do to me this time. Will it be the usual yelling and screaming along with the punches to the chest or the kicks to the back when you’re drunk? Sometimes I think you forget that I’m only six years old. I think to myself will they ever find me. If only God would send me a key to get out of this wretched place.
Chapter Two:
Unlocking The Door
The last time you grabbed me, you hit me several times, and you kicked me in the back. You screamed at me. I then realized from the stinch on your breath that you were drunk again. You began to fall and I just watched in amazement. I watched as your heavy body hit the floor making a large thud. As your head slams against my ankles, I hear your keys jingle and jangle against your side. It takes me a few moments to realize that your not getting back up. You lay there so still as I kick your head off my legs. I watch you lay there for what feels like a lifetime to make sure you don’t move. I listen for your heart beat as it jumps in your chest. I watch as those three keys lay still against your side. Before I can blink again I grab them from your belt loop and run toward the door. That large sinful door that watched me for days upon days.
Chapter Three:
Waiting At The Door
I lunge towards the door in excitement of finally breaking away from you and all the crazy things you have done to me. As I stand face to face with the door all the memories of the first day come rushing back. I remember getting up at 6:30 with my mom screaming that she was making breakfast. I remember the soft kiss she gave me on my check as I walked out the door to catch the bus. I remember seeing a yellow figure in the distance as your cherry red Plymouth voyager raced down the street you stopped in front of me and left the door open. You opened the back door and as I was about to run you grab me by the waist and throw me in the large vehicle. I never got to see my friends. I touch the door with my bare palms embracing that old door because now it can finally go off duty.
Chapter Four:
Opening The Door
I push the door lightly in hope to see sun light or some remnant of the outside world. I watch as the light increases around the edges of that big tall door. I open the door as fast as I can, but it still seems like it takes forever. I look around to get an understanding of what kind of person you portray to be. I guess I’m the only one who got to see the real you. As I look around the room I notice that you are a very cleanly person. The bed looks to be made like a picture in a magazine. I begin to welcome myself in to the rest of the house. As I enter the kitchen my attention is forwarded to the refrigerator where three pictures are posted of you and I, though I don’t remember them. I walk towards the front door contemplating on if I should actually leave because I don’t know what will happen if I do. Without further ado, I open the glass door and walk in to the marvelous light of day.
Chapter Five:
Walking Into The Light
As that glass door closes behind me, I begin to realize that I don’t know where I am. This must be what my brother meant by “rich neighborhoods”. Everywhere I look there are large houses with freshly cut grass and a mail box by the smooth solid road. I try to find something. Anything. Just something to remind me of my past. Those tall elegant buildings sit there staring at me as if I was a stranger. As I walk down the road I wonder if there are more people like you inside each one. I begin to run in fear that you might wake up and see me standing on the sidewalk. I run faster and faster hoping to get as far away from you as I can. As I run I begin to see a playground in the distance. I run as quickly as I can to get there hoping there will be someone there who could help me. When I arrive I realize that no one had been there in a while. Even though its day it seems as though only one street light is on I run towards it hoping to find some safety.
Chapter Six:
Approaching The Door
As I stand under that bright, bright light it comes to my attention that there is a small house near by that doesn't look like all the others. My assumption is that the people who live here are like me; poor. I begin to cross the black road in front of me in hope to find some help at the small home. It seems different in so many ways. It could be that it doesn’t have a garage and the others have two. It could be that it only has two windows, when all the other have several. I know what it is. It has a small wooden door instead of a large glass one.
