Willis
Waking up from her nap, she found him sitting right next to her on the couch. He was so happy to finally see her awake from her nap. He gave her a big, wet, slobbery kiss on the face and waited for her to get up. Moving her blonde, silky hair out of her face while wiping the slobber, she gave him a little pat on the head. As she was fixing her little princess pajama dress, she held onto her soft, pink baby blanket and went to go into the kitchen to get some apple juice. He just sat there, waiting for her to come back. Walking back from the kitchen, with her apple juice in one hand and her baby blanket in the other hand, she sat back down on the couch and drank her juice. She said, “You’re so fluffy, Willis,” and started to pet his soft, fluffy, black, brown and white fur.
As the days went by, he would always make sure that she was safe. He would follow her around the small, yet spacious house. Follow her outside into the background. Even when her parents were outside and she was in her little red, plastic car that made her have to use her feet to push, he would lay out on the grass and watch her. One night, her mother said that it was time to take a bath, and she plopped right into the bathtub with her mermaid barbies. As she was playing with her mermaids, out of the blue, Willis decided to join her in the bathtub. She giggled at him. “What are you doing, silly doggy?” as she responded to his movement. But he didn’t mind at all. He just sat there, in the tub with her. Her mother laughed and took a picture of them. After she was done taking her bath, she put on her princess pajama dress and looked through a scrapbook of photos that her mom had taken ever since she was born. She found one photo and asked her mom about. “What is WeWe doing in this photo, mommy?” she asked and yawned cutely. “Well, when I put you in your crib, Willis really wanted to sleep with you, and so he got on his hind legs and put his two front paws in between the crib bars and tried to get into the crib with you.” her mother exclaimed. “Oh, so that’s what he was doing,” she said tiredly after yawning again and walked back into her room with the photo and went to sleep.
A couple months later, her family moved to Franklin, because the house she was living in was small. The new house she was moving to had a neighborhood with kids her age and she was able to have a big room with a nice big closet and was also able to go to school with the kids in her neighborhood. A couple years later, she was in middle school and Willis became old and blind. When she came home from school every day, she would always pet him and give him a hug and kiss on the top of his head. On March 16, she was invited over to her friends' house to celebrate her friends’ birthday. She rode her scooter to her friends as the sun was setting. She was wearing a sweatshirt and black pants. But as she was riding, she got a text message from her dad. Her dad texted, “I’m so sorry, but Willis is dead.” She cried all the way to her friends' house and stayed over at her house for a little bit. She wondered why his death came on her friend’s birthday. Her dad came over to her friends’ house and they both walked back to their house while riding the scooter. A couple years later after the death of Willis, she was in high school and wrote a little poem about Willis for English class. She was motivated to write a poem about Willis because he was very important to her. She was very excited to write about a companion that has been there for her whole life. She never forgets the day of what happened, but will always remember the sweet, spectacular memories that she shared with Willis.
