Animals
They say we’re not welcome
Their borders scream “stay where you belong you aliens”
They spray paint a white line across our different countries
And say anything past the picture-perfect white, economy driven line is an imposter
They see our exhausted hands as vicious claws
Our broken smiles as fangs
Our starving bodies as predators
To them, we are animals
And their picture-perfect white, economy driven line
Enforces the razor-edged knives they plan to hunt us down with

Lily O'Hanlon is a 14 year old student from Bethesda, Maryland. She has a huge fervency for fashion, makeup, writing, math, cute coffee shops, and anything New York-an admittedly erratic combination. In summer 2018, she did two sleepaway writing camps: Young Writers Workshop with UVA and Creative Writing at GirlsFirst!. She also did a week long writing camp at Writopia lab in Washington, DC. At these memorable programs, her love for writing continued to grow. She has read teen ink for a long time, and is so grateful for the oppurtunities the magazine provides for youth.
