Lying side by side,
Staring at the dark,
Regret in the silence,
Until the query comes.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why are we here?
Why do we have to die?
Why is there so much pain?
Why is everything so complicated?
Why is everything so difficult?
Why here, why now, why
me?"
"I don't know," comes the whispered reply,
"I don't know why we have
Mortal, physical life if
Afterwards we have Immortal
Life as spirits.
I don't know why we have
So many problems,
I don't know why He
Makes things so difficult,
I don't know why we are here."
"But What?
What are we meant
to do?
What is our ultimate goal,
our purpose?
What is the purpose of love,
if there is so much hate?
How can we comprehend,
a universe of such size, let alone
Space that goes on
for infinity?
How can we comprehend,
Matter so small there
Are millions in the tip
of a pin?
How did we come to
Believe in God?" the torrent ends,
and before the response, a pause.
"I think we are meant to each
bring as much joy as
Possible, but I
Cannot decide on the purpose of
Life.
I don't know,
I have so many questions
too.
I cannot comprehend
an Infinite Space,
a Miniscule Particle,
Life for Eternity.
These concepts are too big,
For us, so young.
I only know to believe,
to have faith and wait
to be kind to others and
make your stay in this world
as pleasant and beneficial
as possible.
I know that God does not
discourage questions,
I know that questions
I will always have."
Contemplation attracts silence.
"God is too big a concept,
for us to understand,
Life too complicated,
To make sense of,
I do not know the truth,
I do know right and
wrong,
I do not know the answers,
but I do know
the Questions.
And that is one step closer,
To getting the answers," the questioner
asserts.
Silence falls again
Upon the darkness,
As two young girls,
Ponder the meaning of life,
Feeling closer
Than ever before,
Because of that night,
in the dark,

Something like this happened once, though me and that friend have parted ways, I still remember that night. It was more of a discussion than that.

Great concept and very deep. I also liked the structure and how it was more free verse and not made to stick to a specific pattern

S.t.S it shows his real character when he left you. He was shallow. Very sad though because he would have been something beautifully good. I had a special moment kinda similiar with my best friend and I really enjoyed it with her. It's one of my favorite memories.

Deep. O_O I used to talk to my best friend about these things... but fate had its funny ways and drove him, and his words, away.

This was a really great poem. I've realized that you write poems still undiscovered to others. You write about different things, better things than the rest of us. Great Job!!!!

Yup, that's my first, second, third etc choice of job! Thanks for the comment, I'll check on your work, and I knew it could be so much better but I couldn't figure out how.

let it burn, suffering teaches the soul; let it grow, love nourishes the heart.

i love this poem simply because it reminds me of so many nights that ive had with fellow friends. the only difference between conversations is that we would talk about things like time, the multiple universe theory,(i wrote a piece on this and it should be out soon)how the universe was started, and many things like that. well, anyways, im going to go on a writing spree pretty soon, so there will be alot more stuff that i wrote running around. all im waiting for is a way that i can always use a computer. by the way i rate this one a four, it was a close call, but it could have been better. im eargerly awiating your next piece of work to develop. by the way, you realy do have a talent for writing, have you ever thought about becoming an author?
