Metallic You

It's metallic,
a double sided guilt.
Coppery threads intertwined
our destinies just the same
Somehow, I can't bring myself
to say your name.
Would it have been different?
If we had never met, would
I still feel this pain?
Or is it my fault
that I hurt?
The guilt eats me alive
my skin peels away,
reattaches itself,
peels again...
If it weren't you,
If I had to choose to
replace you on that wet day,
could I do it?
Would I have replaced the ones I told to be safe?
Would I have chosen you over them?
Would I have saved your life?
Its the answer that kills me.
I wish, I wish...
I wish these coppery threads of fate would wind around my throat.
Take my breath away,
Let me see stars,
I will become part of the galaxy,
eternity in a spiraling star pocked abyss.
I deserve your hate, I deserve your haunting. I let myself be relieved that it wasn't her or her or him or them.
It was just you.
Just you.
I'm sorry.

This piecie was written soon after one of my dear friends passed. I wish it did my feelings justice.
