Roses and Cigarettes
She smelled of roses and cigarettes,
Arms covered in makeup and scars,
Lined eyes and lips red,
She walked miles but never got far,
She ran away from all the problems,
That burdened her troubled soul,
But she never spoke a word about them,
So then how did everyone know?
You could see it in her eyes they’d say,
Glossy, bloodshot but somehow gray,
And as she walked through the world,
She’d find where she belonged one day.
