A Grieving Planet
Nature does not mourn
Its many limbs we burn,
Yet humanity is torn
Within the masochism of watching it
Set itself ablaze.
A terminal case of depravity:
We have locked ourselves in a sauna
And thrown away the key.
We said time would heal our wounds
But it only served to distract us from
The fire in our souls.
Like a bond severed by shattered trust,
Or blood seeping into wool,
Nature does not mourn
The destruction we have caused.
