Your Father
Hush, young child,
Your father has fallen,
And awakened the dead of the night.
Don’t fear, but prevail.
Don’t forget, but move on.
Your father was a vision for history,
Your father was an inspiration.
Underground he must have been seen,
For many doubt he was ever alive.
But you can promise to hold dear,
The blood he passed on to you.
I will not stop you from kindling the flame.
I will not avoid your presence, but instead encourage you.
Keep alive the memory of your father.
For once he was mine,
But independent thought led me astray.
Hush, young child,
Don’t cry tonight.
His touch once tender and mild,
Vanished now with the light,
But you may hold his picture near,
For your father has fallen.
I’m sorry, my dear.
