Graveyard
Crumpled leaves cover the stones
hidden in the grass.
The earth grows over the graves
that lie flat,
hiding
before anyone can see them.
Birds screech, calling their master
after us.
The hollow ground
caves under our feet
pulling us closer to the dead.
We can smell the foul sent
of the bodies rotting below.
Wind blows pushing away the leaves
and whipping our hair
into a tornado.
Halloween is around the corner
causing the cemetery to come
alive.
I imagine the spirits
crawling from their graves,
dancing to the sound of our screams.
We walk through an isle of misery
full of broken crypts
and falling stones.
Black clouds roll over the hills
surrounding us in darkness.
We walk further into the abyss,
knowing we won’t come out.
