The Epic of the Bug
A little bug,
small and green,
sat on the stalk
of a bean.
Bugs have many predators
you see,
so blending in
he had to be.
Dogs and cats.
Mouse and a bear.
They were crawling
everywhere.
Only one chomp
meant certain demise.
Always open
were the bug’s eyes.
Then one day,
while crawling through the grass,
he came upon
a very young lass.
She was scary
as young as she may be.
She was quite tall,
though not as tall as a tree.
The bug was so scared
he thought he was a goner.
She said she would not hurt him
upon her honor.
She picked him up.
At eye level he was.
She said he was small,
he let out an angry buzz!
“No offense did I mean,”
said the girl.
But after that,
he was gone in a whirl.
He ran far
from town to town,
always protecting
his tiny crown.
In the forest
very deep,
over leaves
the bug would creep.
Then one day,
in the shallows of a pool,
he came upon agator,
very calm and cool.
Slowly
he crept
as the alligator
slept.
Suddenly,
the alligator woke,
and gave the bug
a tiny poke.
The bug that was
very scared,
tried to move,
but he felt impaired.
A rustle in the bushes.
What was that noise?
There was the girl.
Crouched and poised.
Then she gave
a loud screech.
The alligator turned
pale as bleach.
The girl came
and picked up the bug.
Then she placed him
inside a mug.
When he found himself
rudely dumped out,
he landed on
a tiny bean sprout.
There he sat
for a while
until the girl
left with a smile.
