fragile & violated
he was glass, clear and honest
sometimes, too honest
easily mistaken, and looked through,
he felt inadequate
his heart was full, bursting at the seams
with certainty and confidence
yet, he was still breakable
able to be blown down with a single breath
she was stone,
hard and opinionated
her surface was smooth, yet coarse:
hidden knots under her skin
she was tough and thick-skinned
but that isn’t what
we are born to be
for the world can do wrong
to the best of us
he was apprehensive of her
for she exhibited more courage
than she actually had
she was wary of him
for the façade he showed her
was not who
he actually was
stone breaks glass
but that doesn’t mean
rock isn’t broken
in the process
