Criminal Justice System Vs. Race
Going through my mind and just...tryna rewind,
Reminisce and wonder why,
So many different people commit many different crimes,
Or why the judge looks at your skin and try to double time,
It’s bout that time for some refine,
Kinda hard to get ahead when you can’t help but fall behind,
Segregation, discrimination, incarceration,
Society leaving our blacks with a false reputation,
Now odds against us as the nation’s showcasing this hatred,
Especially towards the ones who found success and made it,
Flipping through the pages learning bout the history,
Justice system steady tryna hinder me,
Always treated differently, hard to stay strong mentally,
Overpowered physically, lifestyle wasn’t meant for me,
Behind a set of bars is where my future isn’t meant to be,
Speaking facts real truthfully, this racism ain’t new to me,
Haters tryna get to me, let the innocent ones free,
Jails develop cruelty instead of forming unity,
Honestly they’re ruining, our lives and our community,
But all we have to do is join together and we’ll have a key
Written in Rise Up class. True feelings based on previous experiences as well as close family and friend's experiences with the justice system.
