Arcadia
He says he comes from Arcadia but I don't think he's telling the truth
'Cause when I asked what it was like back where he spent the days of his youth
He said he grew up in an apartment complex with ever so much grace
But it's common sense, you can't find Arcadia if you weren't born there in the first place
And he said, "It's easier if you're born there, it's true
But there is a path to the land that you dream of
Many a man walks with nothing but the skin on their bones
And the blood on their teeth
But for as long as they can breathe
They'll throw a fist in the air
Let it go in a prayer
And they'll find Arcadia there"
He says there is beauty in Arcadia but I don't think he's telling the truth
For when I ask him to describe the sights he laughs and says, "It's quite the view
Of the ocean that gently crashes, if you don't mind wearing three jackets
From the cold that bites into your skin" which is a world I wouldn't want to live within
But he said, "There are some who chase a perfect something
And they'll be chasing and chasing until they drop dead
I've seen many a man smile with nothing but the skin on their bones
And the blood on their teeth
And there's nothing wrong with
Wanting a little more but
You won't find Arcadia if you're searching for an idea"
And I said, "If Arcadia is what you want it to be
What about the ones who think it doesn't exist?"
He grinned, "Well, then it doesn't exist for them"
And one day they'll realize that it's not a race
There is a way out the Arcadia chase
'Cause Arcadia is a state of mind, not a place

This is about the search for happiness. 'Arcadia' is a mythical place that is a metaphor for that happiness.
