He would have rocked the world
Right down
To its core
When someone said he’d given enough
He would’ve always
Given more

He would’ve taken a stand
When no one else dared
Would’ve lent a hand
When no one else cared

As a boy
He would’ve
Made his mama smile
They would ‘ave stood on the balcony
And talked
Beyond a while

She would have loved him
--loved him so
Made up for the dad
That he would never
Know

As a lad
He would have
Cared for his friends
Would ‘ave stood up for a girl
Made a bully
Make amends

Would have helped his momma
Been her little man
A livin’ shadow by her side
He laughed when she laughed
And cried
When she cried

He would have married
His first love
One raining
Summer
Day
And both their parents would’ve wept
When they drove away

Together they would’ve had
Five babes
Five little ones to love
Five souls to care for
And cherish
From above

He would have lent to the broken
Gave to those who had none
Loved the people
That the world
Liked to shun

He would’ve changed a hundred lives
Who changed
A thousand more
Touching many people
From East to West shore

Would’ve died an old man
Who had finalized the plan
For his life

Yet that was not to be

His mother,
She was young
So young and alone
She made a choice
And her child was never known

A little boy
Torn
From the safety
Of her womb
The place where he was meant to grow
Became his untimely
Tomb

The doctors said
He was not a child
Not a baby
Not a person
His mother
She believed them
She gave up
Her little boy

Fell for the lie
That he should die
Because it didn’t seem
That she could give him
The American Dream

Oh, the blessings and the love
That she cast away
When her baby boy
Wasn't granted
Light of day
