What is it like to be a Jets fan? I wish I did not know but sadly I do. Millions of fans were looking forward to watching the Jets this season with their new quarterback Aaron Rogers but with the luck of the New York Jets he went down with an injury in the third play of the game. Watching Rodgers run out of the tunnel and the entire stadium going nuts with green flashing lights gave me and definitely many others, some hope about this season for the first time in a long time. Not having to watch Zach Wilson gave me a feeling of relief after all of the struggles from the last few years. Watching Rodgers go down felt terrible for me and the entire Jet community. Even though we won the first game of the season against the Bills, it still felt like a loss knowing we had lost our superstar. Going to school the next day with my dad we listened to ESPN 98.7 radio and I heard Jets fans rant on and on. Some talked about how we had no offense without Rogers while others said the defense could carry us to the playoffs. I knew the Jets had a top 5 defense as soon as I watched them shut down the bills. But I also knew that our offense had major struggles, which would not be enough to get us into the playoffs. As the start of the season flew by I had some hope and so did many others after giving the unstoppable Philadelphia Eagles their first loss. Zach Wilson was also not playing terribly especially in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, where Wilson hit 28 of his 39 passes for 245 yards and had 2 touchdowns. The Jets defense looked like one of the best defenses in the league as they held Mahomes to 18 completions and intercepted him twice. But with no surprise the Jets went back to being the Jets. Zachs skill went right back to default and now I am sitting here during week 17 and the Jets have a 0% chance of making the playoffs. After attending the freezing cold game against Miami on Black Friday I have officially lost all hope. Another season of missing the playoffs was in the books. With millions of fans devastated in New York after what seemed like a wasted season many ask, what's next? The New York Jets have not made the playoffs in over a decade! The last time they won a super bowl was in 1969 which was super bowl 3! These stats speak for themselves as the franchise is currently in shambles. It's time for owners, coaches, and managers to figure out what the issue is because at this point it is just embarrassing. For the Jets next season not much is going to change. They are planning to keep their entire coaching staff which I somewhat agree with. I don’t believe Nathaniel Hackett is meant to be an offensive coordinator. But aside from him and getting a new quarterback the Jets should stick to what they are doing. The defense has always looked amazing and with Rodgers coming back in 2024 the Jets should be in a great position. It really just comes down that first step, are they going to win and make the playoffs?
