Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes
Book Review Outline
Book title and author: Johnny Tremain By Esther Forbes
Title of review: Johnny's Page Turner
Number of stars (1 to 5): 4
Introduction
I learned that Johnny is a very intriguing, skilled silversmith for being only 14 years old. Of course this is back in the 1700s so not most 14 year old boys would be doing that today. Mr. Lapham with whom he is living with took him in and started teaching him the art of silversmith.
Description and summary of main points
Johnny has been with the great Laphams for about now two years. Johnny is working very diligently and hard to get better at what he wants to do for a living when he gets older. Johnny was trying to get a silver basin done with his jealous, stepbrother Dove knocked him over and caused Johnny to have a horrible accident.
Evaluation
Johnny is a very trustworthy, hard-working boy, not like most boys were back in the 1700s. I think the author wanted to get across that Johnny, the main character, was suppose to be a leader and that's how I interpreted her writing. I started to enjoy reading the book as I got about a fourth of the way in. It took me a little while to get interested into the book but, it does get interesting.
Conclusion
A well told novel about a young boy trying to make his dreams come true working hard in the beginning but, tragically having a faulty accident from his envious step brother. All at the same time this novel is suspenseful, heart breaking, and adventurous, making it a great novel for all.
Your final review
I would recommend this novel for ages 13 and up because it has a vast wide of vocabulary and different things that you need to know to fully understand the novel. I enjoyed this novel very action filled and there are also some calm moments scrunched in there too.
