I Want To Write You A Story
I want to write you a story.
A story about a little girl who
was born in a regular town
to a regular life.
When she was young her mother took her,
took her to the beach and said,
fill this bucket with water.
She filled the bucket and found
a starfish
clinging to the yellow plastic in search of answers.
She grew up searching for the answers that
little starfish never found
because it’s only natural to want to
finish what you’ve
set
in motion.
She was still searching for the answers when she saw the boy
with the smile that led her to
cry in her pillow when he danced with that
friend of hers
and they left her alone after.
Weeks passed before
her heart got stitched together again
with the help of her mother and a
thread made of wishes and music and long runs on the beach
at sunrise.
I want to write you a story
because stories are like
treasure hunters
looking for the truth.
Mine is buried under layers of sand
in a yellow bucket
guarded by a small
pink
starfish.
And it isn’t over yet,
