We choose the love we think we deserve ~The Perks

And I remember she wouldn’t wake up.
Her lips were mushed together in a
Horrible shade of red
They buried my mother in a white dress
And red lips.
And she couldn’t see.
Where are your glasses, Mommy?
And still at sixteen I bring them to my face
And peer through the distorted murky lenses
To see what she saw
Maybe one day …
And I remember it hitting me
Like it does every day
When I hear them all talk and complain about their
“Horrible” mothers
What’s it like to have a mother
I’d give anything to know,
Or at least for them to know how lucky they are.
They know.
And I remember she wouldn’t sit up
And I dreamed of a stuffing machine because
Someone whispered by my ear she was
Cut in half and stuffed
And it made no sense
And still at sixteen I wonder
What happened to my mother?
And I remember her faintly
She doesn’t even smile in my dreams anymore
And I wonder if she’ll ever be proud of me
If she’d ever approve of me
And who I’ve become
The things I’ve seen
The things I’ve done
And I remember her singing
Though I can’t hear her voice
The only happy Christmas I hold on to
Every year
Maybe one day it’ll come back
I used to think
Maybe one day she’d come back
And still at sixteen I hope
Maybe one day she’ll come back …
And I remember she wouldn’t wake up
Not even to say good-bye.

I can't relate to what you are going through and I can't possibly imagine how you feel. What I do know is that your writing is beautiful and raw. The emotions in your poem are strong and completely full of truths. I am not saying this just because I feel bad for you. Trust me, if I thought your peom was bad, I'd tell you. I would know about bad poems too because mine are horrible. There are many poems on this website that stink. Yours is not one of them though. Even though I can't write very well I know that words can make you stronger. So keep writing and enjoy it. You have such a strong ability to write and it is one of the few I have come across on this website. Most of these writiers sound like they are just beginning to try writing but you sound like a pro. Your words can evoke emotions and that is extraordinary. I love your poem and want to read more!

"we fear the things we were taught to be afraid of."-Blood and Chocolate.

This is amazing. you must be a very strong person to be able to handle that. im sorry about your loss ): and i know how you feel about people saying they hate their parents. but in some cases its truely the parents fault. if the parent is pushing the child away the kid has no control of that. and the only feeling they can have is hate. because im going through that situation right now. i dont hate my mom but she is pushing me away everyday and one day im gonna be gone and she will realize what she did. hopefully it wont go that far but right now thats whats happening. and it hurts. and i feel bad for every kid that is going through it, but other cases they parents are good parents and do everything for that child and yet they dont realize it. which is horrible. but again, i am so sorry for your loss. and dont ever feel alone because im sure there is someone out there for you that you can turn to when you need someone to talk to. (: and im sure there are tons of people on here to talk to! especially me (:

"Poets utter great and wise things that they themselves can not comprehend."

I know people who wished their moms would die. I know people who wished their moms would come back to life. I also know people who wish they new their mom so they could have an opinion. I love my mom, though i don't love her desicions. She's the only mother i have, and when she's gone she's gone. Thanks for the amazing poem.

This is beautifully written. I always worry about my mom, because she left my dad a few years ago. And I'm always mad at her for being so much like a teenager. But I never realize how lucky I am to be able to say that I'm visiting my mom this weekend or anything like that. Thanks for writing this, it really opened my eyes. And I'm sorry that you had to go throught that; I can't imagine what it's like. Thanks again.<3

\"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.\" by Sir Arthur Conan. Doyle

I know. every time my friends say they hate their mom, i look at them and say i love my mom. I turn around and walk away. I really hate it when people take their parents for granted.
